Chopta Trek

The trail takes you to one of the best scenic locations in Uttarakhand. and can elevate you to 12,110 ft at the summit. Chopta valley is indeed beautiful as it has lush green meadows and gigantic pine and oak trees surrounded by splendid nature. Chandrashila, Tungnath, and Devariya Dal are the trekking destinations in the Chopra region. Chopta is also famous among bird watchers due to the abundance of birds. Nestled in the finest location in the Himalayas and offers a panoramic view from the summit. You can witness Nanda Devi peak, mt Trishul and Kedar peak, and Bandar punch from the Chopra region. This trial will take you to a forest full of rhododendrons, flower trees, and wide meadows. This place got famous lately and is a very popular trekking destination among youths and beholds the dignity of passionate trekkers. 

OVERVIEW:

Chopta is meant for trekking both in summer and winter where we can, where we let ourselves free from the busy hectic life of the city and leave the chaotic hustle and bustle behind. The climate of the chapter is cold due to its astonishing height and receives heavy snowfall in winter which leaves a carpet of snow and in summer the grassland blooming with flowers is so mesmerizing you can visit Chopta at this time of the year. from the month of march to October is a preferable time to visit Chopta. This is one heck of a trek adorned with coniferous, mists, and snow. 

A COMPLETE ITINERARY

Rishikesh which is 263 km from the national capital is the easiest gateway to the Chopta region. you can reach Rishikesh by bus or car. It also has a railway station which is well connected to other major cities.

On day 1

 you will be driven to sari village which is almost 200 km from Rishikesh and a 5 to 6-hour drive. and a 2 to 3-hour trek to deoriatal. you can stop at devprayag to witness the breathtaking view of the Bhagirathi and Alaknanda rivers forming the holy river Ganga. when you reach deoria tal enjoy the birds chirping and verdant clearing. You can either settle your camps in deoria tal or drive back to Chopta which is 45 min away on motors from sari village. rest for the day 

on day 2 

wake up in Chopta amidst nature with birds chirping. have a good breakfast and start your trek to the most awaited day.

start your trek to tungnath which is 4 km and you can reach the summit in a max of 2 hours with slow steps. witness the 1000-year-old famous temple, after crossing through rhododendrons forest will be able to witness the Kedar ghati range entirely covered with snow. you can get the finest cuisines and fresh juices offered by locals.

It is not enough, the day has a lot to surprise you. After exploring the Tungnath trek you will continue the hike for 1.5 km reaching the summit of Chandrashila peak elevating you to 12,110 ft. The mesmerizing 360-degree view of the Himalayan range. The silence of the Himalayas is enough to take your breath away. enjoy the inspiring view of the summit. you can have lunch and start the descent to Chopta. where you will stay in camps. music in the background and a bonfire with light will make your day memorable. overnight staying in camps between vast valleys and dwarfed hills with glittering stars in the sky is a lifetime experience one should have. 

On day 3,

 have an energetic breakfast as it will be a long drive because you will be heading back to Rishikesh which is again 205 km of a drive. 

BEST TIME TO VISIT

Keeping in mind all the weather conditions during the summer season it is preferable to do this trek. From the month of march to June is good to go. During the monsoon, it will be pleasant weather but you can check the weather forecast before planning a trip. In winter Chopta receives heavy snowfall and the meadows get covered with a carpet of snow. you can get revitalized in this short trek which will be over in a weekend. 

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

  • Chopta doesn’t have electricity; locals are dependent on solar panels. you should carry your extra batteries. 
  • don’t waste water. It is precious.
  • avoid plastic bags 
  • and avoid earphones while trekking
  • gets yourself acclimatized. don’t be in a hustle and bustle when you reach the summit. 
  • you can pitch your tents after taking permission.
